The short answer

A POTS replacement project runs in five stages: audit the lines, validate coverage, port the numbers, install and test the managed box, then release copper. The analog equipment is never modified – only the transport underneath it changes, and every line is supervised from cutover onward.

Discovery and line audit

  • Full copies of carrier invoices and customer service records collected
  • Each analog line mapped to a building, room, and piece of equipment
  • Dead lines flagged for disconnect rather than replacement

Design and coverage validation

  • Cellular signal checked per service address across multiple carriers
  • Transport chosen per site: cellular primary, fiber primary, or both
  • Device count sized against the 8-line capacity per box
  • External antenna requirements identified up front

Porting and provisioning

  • Letters of authorization prepared against the exact CSR account name
  • Port requests submitted and firm order commitment dates confirmed
  • Boxes preconfigured, labeled per site, and shipped
  • Central stations notified of the planned cutover window

Install and cutover

  • Box powered, analog pairs landed, dial tone verified per port
  • Alarm accounts placed on test; signal tests run to the receiver
  • Elevator phones called from the cab and answered at the monitoring center
  • Fax lines tested at realistic page counts

Documentation and copper release

  • Line inventory, test logs, and device records delivered
  • Copper disconnect orders submitted only after verified testing
  • Billing verified against the disconnected lines the following cycle
